We could be different.
My hair wasn't always curly, but it was always red. It was pin straight from birth all through my childhood, then as if adolescence wasn't enough, it gained waves and wild volume furthering the awkwardness of my middle school career but thankfully by the time I entered high school, I had gotten my curls.
